Ways to use CloudCover Photography for your boudoir galleries
Irrespective
of whether you are in agreement with retouching or not, the point is,
concerning boudoir photography, women want it. It's difficult enough to get
down to your birthday suit in front of a total stranger pointing a camera at
you but after doing this for eight years, understanding that the blemishes,
dark circles, stretch-marks, cellulite, spider veins and parts that muffin top
over clothing will be magically taken away into the ether makes it much
simpler.
Having an
average of 500 boudoir photography consumers each year, the level of or how
little they require to be retouched can vary. It's important to tune in through
her session. Mentally pay attention to comments, body language and garment
options and look for a convenient moment to casually determine her retouching
expectations. For instance, whenever a client is self-conscious about her hips
and thighs and keeps making comments about them (questioning if they look fat,
remarking that she has never liked that area of her physique or if she is
constantly yanking apparel over that area when it's totally exposed), reassure
her that you are able to take away anything bulging and that you can actually
get rid of a few pounds and trim them down in the retouching process.
This will
relieve her stress and now you have a starting point of retouching
expectations. The moment it comes up, most women will express delight and can
even make other requests there are also some who will want "to look
natural". The important idea is to always let your client know that you'll
be able to retouch just as much or as little as SHE wants.
My favorite
retouching request was from a client that felt so motivated after her appointment
that in spite of accepting her weight years ago, before she even left her
shoot, she made a decision to lose 30 lbs and come back in twelve months to do
one more photo session. When she submitted her image order, she wrote me a
little letter telling me this and requesting that I take those 30 lbs off her
images for encouragement.
"Carve
me like a turkey!", she said. Generally, I don't like to 'touch' a photo
that heavily, but she was sure that is what she wished. So, I shaved off 30 lbs
from her photographs.
A year later
I shot her once more. It was just like the 30 lbs. I made vanish in Photoshop
zapped it off her in real life too! She jumped up out of the makeup seat when
she spotted me and gave me the biggest bear hug and through completely happy tears,
she thanked me for giving her the encouragement and inspiration to shed the
weight she had accumulated with her pregnancy and had carried for several
years.
You will
always find naysayers from the professional photography industry, especially
boudoir Photography, ranting in opposition to retouching, my recommendation is
to tune it out and focus on the women who are trusting you with their
vulnerability and give all of them a little something above her goals. Provide
them with even more than brilliant pictures. You can simply change their lives.
